Sudanese Doctors Document 19 Cases of Rape Against Women Fleeing from El-Fasher

Mashawir – Reports

The Sudan Doctors Network reported that it has documented 19 cases of rape committed against women while they were fleeing from the city of El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, to the city of Al-Dabbah in Northern State, allegedly by individuals belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In its statement, the network said that among the survivors are two pregnant women who are receiving specialized medical care from local medical teams, amid extremely difficult humanitarian conditions and a growing number of people escaping the fighting in the Darfur region.

The network strongly condemned what it described as acts of mass rape targeting women escaping from El-Fasher.

It noted that these assaults constitute a direct targeting of women and a clear violation of international laws that criminalize the use of sexual violence as a weapon against civilians, adding that the continued occurrence of such violations reflects a dangerous escalation in the targeting of the most vulnerable groups.

The network called on the United Nations and international human rights mechanisms to take urgent steps, including providing protection for women and children on displacement routes, sending independent investigation teams to establish the facts, and ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and medical personnel.

It also urged applying serious pressure on the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces to stop the attacks, respect international humanitarian law, and secure safe passages for civilians.
