Sudan’s Prime Minister: Our Peace Initiative Is Based on References Including the Jeddah Declaration

Follow-ups – Mashawir

Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris said on Friday that the government presented its vision for peace during an open session of the United Nations Security Council, noting that it is based on several reference frameworks, including the Jeddah Platform Declaration.
He stressed that Sudan will not accept the presence of any UN forces or any form of imposed monitoring.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Sudan after returning from the United States, Idris explained that most of the interactions at the Security Council session toward the government’s peace initiative were positive.
He affirmed that the initiative is capable of stopping the war and achieving a just and comprehensive peace for the Sudanese people.
The Prime Minister added, “We are advocates of peace, not advocates of war. War was imposed on us,” warning that any ceasefire not accompanied by the disarmament of what he described as militias would lead to further complications in the war that has continued for more than two years.
He further clarified that the government’s peace initiative is based on several references, including UN Security Council resolutions and the Jeddah Declaration signed in May 2023, in addition to regional and international engagements, notably the visits conducted by the Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, particularly to Egypt and Qatar.
