Siege Pushes South Kordofan Residents Toward Famine

Follow-ups – Mashawir

Local sources said that residents of the besieged cities of Al-Dilling and Kadugli are facing severe difficulties leaving the areas due to a tight military cordon imposed around them.

The sources noted that the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) requires those wishing to cross into South Sudan to obtain a travel document from its affiliated authorities—a process that takes a long time and consequently delays the passage of thousands of people for weeks, and in some cases months. Even then, the document does not allow holders to reach the capital Juba, restricting them instead to the Iida displacement camp.

Ongoing fighting has forced more than 10,000 people to flee their homes in North Darfur and South Kordofan within a single week.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that more than 7,000 people were displaced from the towns of Ambro and Kornoy in North Darfur following their takeover by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) a few days ago. Meanwhile, more than 3,000 people fled the besieged city of Kadugli, which has been under siege for nearly a year, amid worsening humanitarian conditions and the spread of famine.
