5,000 Children Displaced Daily in Sudan

Mashawir - Reports

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports that approximately 5,000 children are displaced every day in Sudan since the conflict began in April 2023.

UNICEF representative Ricardo Pires stated that many of these children have been forced to flee multiple times, with violence following them to every place they seek refuge.

The crisis is being further compounded by a global funding shortfall. Donors provided only 36% of the $4.2 billion requested for humanitarian aid last year.

Due to this lack of resources, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) was able to assist only 20 million of the estimated 34 million people currently in need of humanitarian aid across the country.

In response to the deteriorating situation, UN officials have called for an immediate ceasefire, concrete steps toward a lasting peace, guaranteed access for humanitarian aid, and the protection of civilians.
