Deteriorating Health and Humanitarian Conditions in Darfur
Follow-ups - Mashawir
The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur has described the health and food conditions in displacement camps particularly in Tawila area of North Darfur and other camps across the region as “extremely dire.”
Adam Regal, the official spokesperson for the Coordination, stated that the humanitarian situation in the camps has reached a catastrophic level. This is a result of worsening hunger and the spread of malnutrition and measles due to the lack of routine vaccinations for children. Furthermore, other epidemics are breaking out among children and women, especially mothers, whose tragedies and suffering are magnified by the bitter reality on the ground.
He explained that international organizations are facing funding challenges, which has forced them to reduce food aid packages and other forms of assistance. This has directly impacted the needs of the displaced, who rely almost entirely on humanitarian aid.
