An International Organization Supports Livestock and Fisheries Sectors in Sudan

Follow-ups - Mashaweer

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has launched a new initiative to support the livestock sector and develop fisheries in Sudan, providing a total of $7 million in funding.

In a statement, the Ministry of Finance said that “FAO provided a grant of $3.5 million to support the livestock sector in Sudan, and another $3.5 million for the development of fisheries.”

Sudan’s livestock sector suffers from several problems, including a lack of adequate funding, as well as fluctuating government policies and smuggling activities, which causes the country to lose millions of dollars in annual revenue.

During his meeting with the FAO representative in Sudan, Hongjie Yang, Minister of Finance Gibril Ibrahim called on the UN agency to attract more available funding through regional and international financing institutions to support the development of countries affected by war.
