David Miliband: The Sudan War Has Created the World’s Largest Humanitarian Crisis
Follow-ups - Mashaweer
The President of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), David Miliband, has described the events in Sudan as a unique type of civil war that has resulted in the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.
Speaking from Davos, he stated that there is an urgent need to use “countervailing force” as the only way to address the war in Sudan and to punish the parties involved in the conflict and those profiting from it, both inside and outside the country.
Miliband pointed out that there are organized entities within the conflict making profits from the war, urging the United Nations to take a leading role at both political and humanitarian levels, particularly in the field of humanitarian response.
In a related context, Tamara Aburamadan, International Justice Counsel at Human Rights Watch, demanded that the authorities affiliated with the Sudanese Army take immediate action to hand over the remaining fugitives wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to the court, including former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.
