“UNICEF”: Sudan Records Largest Displacement Crisis in the World
Oman - Mashaweer
The Middle East and North Africa regional office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned today (Thursday) that Sudan has recorded the largest internal displacement in the world, with approximately 9.5 million people displaced across 18 states.
In a statement posted on the “X” platform, UNICEF emphasized that Sudan’s children are suffering from a humanitarian catastrophe caused by war, disease outbreaks, and hunger resulting from the conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which broke out nearly three years ago.
UNICEF called for the establishment of lasting peace and stability in Sudan, stressing the need for increased media coverage and funding to address the situation in the country.
The statement added: “UNICEF continues its efforts on the ground, working with partners to provide essential life-saving services to affected children and families, including health, nutrition, safe drinking water, psychosocial support, and education.”
