Unknown Future for Students in Conflict Zones: Sudanese Teachers’ Committee Warns of Risks
Khartoum - Mashaweer
The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee has revealed a proposal to establish a national committee to coordinate education across Sudan. This body would oversee the educational process and organize high school certificate exams, given the ongoing war and the resulting deprivation of thousands of students from sitting for their exams.
In a statement, the committee warned that a large number of high school students might be prevented from taking the 2026 exams, scheduled for next April. This is due to the continued conflict, the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) control over vast areas of the country, and the existence of conflict zones that are difficult to reach.
The statement added that depriving students of education and exams has turned the educational process into a tool of war, used to fragment the country and target its unity, while putting the futures of hundreds of thousands of students at risk.
The committee noted that the 2025–2026 high school certificate exams represent the third exam cycle since the outbreak of war in April 2023. It pointed out that security and humanitarian conditions have prevented thousands of students from continuing their education or preparing for exams, thereby threatening their academic future.
