Sudan Doctors for Human Rights: Situation Has Reached Unprecedented Levels of Deterioration

Khartoum - Mashaweer

The head of the Sudan Doctors for Human Rights office, Nazik Abu Zaid, stated that “the humanitarian situation in Sudan has reached an unprecedented stage of deterioration.”

She noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) has described the current events as “the worst humanitarian disaster the world is witnessing today.”

She added that “Sudan has become the only region where a famine outbreak has been officially confirmed,” emphasizing that the intensity of the crisis is escalating day by day amidst devastating human and livelihood losses.

Abuzaid explained that the figures regarding famine and malnutrition in Sudan are “alarming and unprecedented.” She clarified that according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), more than half of the country’s population is suffering from acute food needs and various forms of malnutrition.

She pointed out that this classification is based on five stages, noting that the situation in Sudan is seeing large numbers of the population moving into the most critical stages.
