Addis Ababa - Mashaweer
A meeting was held this evening (Wednesday) at the African Union headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, between the Quintet Mechanism comprising the African Union, IGAD, the United Nations, the European Union, and the Arab League—and a delegation from the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces “Somoud”, led by Babiker Faisal, head of the alliance’s foreign relations committee.
The meeting discussed the Quintet Mechanism’s proposal to advance peace efforts, and the “Somoud” delegation welcomed the proposals presented by the mechanism.
The alliance expressed its readiness to engage positively with all initiatives aimed at ending the war in the country.
The “Somoud” delegation presented its vision for achieving peace by linking the tracks of a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and political dialogue.
The alliance delegation emphasized the importance of coordination between the Quintet Mechanism, the Quartet initiative, and other countries involved in peace efforts, such as the United Kingdom and Norway.
The meeting affirmed the importance of accelerating efforts to stop the war and the need for the conflicting parties to respond to the proposed humanitarian truce. It also stressed the continuation of consultation and communication to launch a credible, Sudanese-owned, and Sudanese-led peace process.
