The African Summit, at the conclusion of its proceedings in Addis Ababa today (Sunday), called for granting the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations in line with the will of the majority of the international community, declaring its rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people to Egypt or Jordan.
Over the course of two days in Addis Ababa, the 39th African Union Summit discussed security and climate issues, as well as attempts to stop internal conflicts within the continent’s nations.
The summit’s agenda was topped by files on water security, the Free Trade Area, and the debts weighing down the continent, in addition to security unrest in the Sahel and Horn of Africa regions. The war in Sudan also featured prominently.
In its final statement, the African Summit strongly condemned foreign interference in Sudan and called for a humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive Sudanese dialogue.
The summit statement warned of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza due to the siege and the prevention of aid entry, affirming full solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and an end to the occupation.
