Intense diplomatic moves to approve a humanitarian truce in Sudan
New York - Mashaweer
The United States has intensified its diplomatic efforts on the sidelines of the UN Security Council session in New York to discuss developments in Sudan. The goal is to approve a “humanitarian truce” and launch a political process to end the war that has been ongoing since April 2023.
Massad Boulos, the Senior Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump for Arab and African Affairs, emphasized the necessity of moving forward with a Sudanese-led political process to restore the civilian transition and achieve lasting peace.
In a post, Boulos stated that the meeting—which he co-hosted with the U.S. Representative to the UN, Mike Waltz, at the international organization’s headquarters—aims to “intensify coordination to end the devastating conflict in Sudan, secure an immediate humanitarian truce, and relaunch a political path without delay.”
Boulos added: “As violence continues to claim civilian lives and destabilize the region, we emphasized the urgent need for continued humanitarian access and the protection of civilians. The Sudanese-led political process must move forward without delay to restore the civilian transition and achieve lasting peace.”
