Dozens of Schools Damaged in Khartoum State Due to War

Khartoum - Mashaweer

The Ministry of Education in Khartoum State announced today (Monday) that approximately 280 schools have been affected by the war. This comes as the school year resumed in Khartoum yesterday, Sunday, in an effort to revive the educational process in the capital after a three-year hiatus.

The Director of Education for Khartoum State, Qaribullah Mohammed Ahmad, expects the number of students to exceed one million this year, following the gradual return of families and the resumption of classes in several localities.

He added that the number of students in public schools across the three educational levels for the 2024–2025 academic year has reached approximately 726,706, compared to 236,000 students in the 2023–2024 academic year. This reflects significant growth in student numbers as the educational situation relatively stabilizes.

The Director also revealed that maintenance and rehabilitation of damaged schools are ongoing. The Ministry of Finance is handling the full renovation of 63 schools, while 217 schools are being repaired with support from charitable organizations, businessmen, local citizens, and educational councils.
