The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces “Somoud,” led by Abdalla Hamdok, welcomed the appointment of Pekka Haavisto as the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan.
The alliance considered the decision an opportunity to strengthen the international organization’s role in ending the war, which has caused the world’s largest humanitarian disaster.
The alliance affirmed its readiness for positive cooperation with the new UN envoy and his team to advance peace efforts. This includes coordinating existing initiatives and pressuring the conflict parties to accept an immediate, unconditional humanitarian truce, as well as supporting the launch of a Sudanese-led political process that responds to the people’s aspirations to build a modern civil state based on the values of freedom, peace, and justice.
