UN plan of 2.9 billion dollars for Sudanese relief
Port Sudan - Mashaweer
The United Nations has launched an emergency humanitarian response plan for 2026 valued at approximately 3 billion dollars to save millions of people in need in Sudan, coinciding with strong UN warnings regarding the doubling of civilian deaths and the spread of horrific violations.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced the launch of the Humanitarian Needs Plan for Sudan for 2026, requesting urgent funding of 2.9 billion dollars to provide vital life-saving assistance to about 20.4 million people.
The UN office explained in a statement that more than a thousand days of bloody conflict have pushed humanitarian needs to unprecedented high levels; 33.7 million people are in need of assistance in 2026, an increase of 3.3 million people compared to 2025, representing the largest number of people in need of assistance in a single country globally.
The statement indicated that more than 170 humanitarian organizations will implement this plan, warning that the sharp decline in funding since early last year has led to a reduction in humanitarian programs, leaving millions without assistance.
