Terrifying outbreak of dengue fever in Northern Sudan

Northern State - Mashaweer

The Ministry of Health in the Northern State has revealed an increase in dengue fever infection rates, reaching more than 100 cases, amid fears of the disease spreading throughout various parts of the state in the coming period.

The state is witnessing the registration of scattered cases of mosquito-borne diseases, especially in irrigation and agricultural areas in Merowe locality, which has prompted health authorities to intensify monitoring measures and field intervention to prevent the situation from turning into a widespread epidemic center.

The Director of the General Administration of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control in the state, Iitmad Al-Fadil, said that the administration recorded 5 new cases of dengue fever as of February 26, bringing the total number of infections to 104 cases.

She added that 100 of these cases were recorded in the Al-Gharbia area of the Al-Kurair unit in Merowe locality, while 3 cases were recorded in the Al-Alyab area, and one case in the Abdom area of the Merowe unit.

Al-Fadil stressed the importance of entomological surveys and home inspections, drying and washing containers and water collection points, and implementing indoor spraying.
