Egypt discusses mechanisms to support the reconstruction of Sudan

Cairo - Mashaweer

Within the framework of enhancing cooperation in developmental fields, Egypt is discussing mechanisms to support the reconstruction of Sudan.

The Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rustum, emphasized the government’s readiness to harness all its capabilities to support human capacity building in Sudan, particularly in the areas of developmental planning.

This came during talks with the Sudanese Ambassador in Cairo, Imad al-Din Mustafa Adawy, on Thursday. The meeting addressed ways to transfer Egyptian expertise in planning and economic reform to Sudan, in implementation of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s directives to support early recovery and reconstruction efforts in brotherly Sudan.

It was agreed to prepare an integrated study for the reconstruction of Sudan to serve as a reference document for discussion with international financing institutions.

At the end of last February, Egypt and Sudan affirmed their commitment to enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, and supporting reconstruction efforts in Sudan as a national priority and an urgent requirement for achieving sustainable stability, according to a statement from the Egyptian government.

During a visit by Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris to Cairo last month, Sisi stated that Egypt is exerting efforts at regional and international levels to end the war and alleviate the human suffering of the Sudanese people.

According to a briefing from the Egyptian Cabinet on Thursday, Minister Rustum pointed to the role played by the Institute of National Planning in providing technical support and preparing specialized training programs. He also noted the contributions of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in developing statistical systems and building modern, accurate databases, alongside the role of the National Institute for Governance in consolidating transparency principles and improving institutional performance efficiency to enhance the effectiveness and quality of public policy implementation.
