Measles claims lives of Darfur children as vaccination campaign targeting thousands is launched

The Ministry of Health in South Darfur State has announced the launch of a widespread vaccination campaign against measles and rubella, targeting hundreds of thousands of children across various districts of the state, following an increase in infections over recent months.

The Director of the Expanded Program on Immunization at the Ministry of Health, Mohammed Haroun, explained during the inauguration speech that the measles and rubella campaign targets children from the age of 9 months to 15 years, with a total target of 392,711 children in the state.

He indicated that the campaign covers several key districts, including: Al Salam district: 81,816 children, Beliel district: 50,176 children, Kass district: 157,073 children, and the camps: 102,946 children.

He noted that the campaign will be implemented through 267 vaccination centers using approximately 400,000 vaccine doses, employing multiple strategies including fixed centers, sub-centers, and mobile teams to reach children in various areas.
