The Dismantling Committee announces the resumption of its activities and vows to pursue funds inside and outside Sudan

Nairobi - Mashaweer

The Committee for Dismantling the June 30, 1989 Regime and Recovering Public Funds officially announced the resumption of its work, confirming its determination to continue its tasks in dismantling the structure of the former regime and recovering public funds, in light of what it described as the exceptional circumstances the country is going through.

In a statement issued today (Tuesday), the committee saluted the Sudanese people amid the repercussions of the war, considering what is happening to be an extension of the former regime’s attempts to return to power. It emphasized that the resumption of its work comes to confront what it described as the “hijacking of the state” through organizational and financial networks.

The committee pointed out that the decision to freeze its activities following the October 25, 2021 coup lacks legal legitimacy, stressing that its role has remained pivotal in uncovering corruption, pursuing elements of the former regime, and curtailing their influence.

It renewed its commitment to continue dismantling empowerment and recovering looted funds for the public treasury by tracking financial and organizational networks associated with the National Congress and the Sudanese Islamic Movement, and taking the necessary legal measures against them.

The committee linked the continuation of the war to the failure to complete the dismantling process, considering that achieving stability and peace remains contingent on ending the influence of the former regime and holding those responsible for violations during its rule accountable, as well as in the aftermath of the coup, leading up to the war of April 15, 2023, in Sudan.

It revealed that it has begun legally pursuing leaders of the former regime inside and outside Sudan, in addition to confronting what it described as a discourse of disinformation through media platforms, and pledging to expose the fronts and organizations working for those networks.

In the same context, the committee announced that a meeting of its leadership concluded with the resumption of work under the chairmanship of Mohamed al-Faki Suleiman, with a focus on tracking and recovering funds and assets, and drying up sources of financing.

The committee called on the forces of the December 2018 revolution in Sudan and the masses to unite to achieve what it described as the “battle of dismantling,” welcoming cooperation with national, regional, and international institutions to end the war and build a state of law.

It concluded its statement by affirming that it will continue to inform the public of the developments of its work and its next steps through its media platforms.
