Stopping US aid affects thousands of Sudanese monthly
Khartoum - Mashaweer
The International NGO Forum in Sudan stated today, Tuesday, that U.S. funding agreements for organizations operating in Sudan are nearing their expiration dates, which will deprive 1.7 million people monthly of essential services.
In a report, the forum explained that after 12 months of sustained U.S. funding, the agreements that remained in effect have begun to expire. This is despite varying timelines for these agreements, as some organizations have no-cost extensions or have requested extensions.
Washington had maintained funding for vital services in Sudan following a significant cut to the aid it provided to many countries in February 2025.
The report expects the impact of the expiring funding agreements to become visible by July at the latest, as organizations lose 13,623,230 dollars per month allocated for providing services in health, nutrition, water, sanitation, and protection.
It noted that the cessation of funding means 1,716,114 people monthly and 20,593,368 individuals annually will lose access to services that were previously available.
The report stated that 9 partners reported that the impact of the end of U.S. aid programs on health services means the closure of 344 health facilities operating in 13 out of 18 Sudanese states, affecting 876,247 beneficiaries monthly.
