Total power outage in Sudan states and authorities reveal gradual return of service
Khartoum - Mashaweer
Several Sudanese states, including Khartoum, River Nile, Northern, and Red Sea, witnessed a complete power outage for the second time in less than a week, before the electricity company began gradually restoring power today (Sunday), according to technical sources.
Sources in the company said that the general blackout was the result of technical arrangements related to re-feeding stations and strengthening the supply.
They confirmed that the step was programmed and not the result of a sudden failure.
They explained that the states of Kassala, Gedaref, and parts of Gezira were not affected by the outage due to their reliance on the supply coming from the Upper Atbara and Roseires dams.
The Northern, River Nile, and Red Sea states have suffered from frequent outages since the beginning of March due to malfunctions at the Al-Muqran transmission station in Atbara city and the Merowe station, according to a previous statement by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. The ministry said that technical teams had worked on maintaining the two stations over the past weeks.
