Death of a Sudanese Migrant off the Libyan Coast

A young Sudanese man, Salem Issa Abdelrahman, has died by drowning off the coast of Al-Qarabully, east of the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

The young man, originally from East Gezira State, was driven by the harsh conditions of war to undertake a migration journey, hoping to find a dignified life and a better future in Europe, away from poverty, hunger, and conflict.

The waves had washed his body ashore on the beaches of Al-Qarabully, where he was identified through personal belongings in his possession, including his passport and mobile phone.

The body was transferred to Al-Qarabully General Hospital for forensic examination and completion of legal procedures.

It is believed that the young man was part of an irregular migration journey heading toward Europe (Italy or Greece), fleeing the current situation in Sudan.
