Dengue Fever Spreads Across 7 Sudanese States, with Cases of Hepatitis Reported

Khartoum – Mashawir

Sudan’s Ministry of Health announced today (Wednesday) a rise in dengue fever infections across seven states, alongside reported cases of hepatitis in three states, amid a severe shortage of healthcare services due to the ongoing conflict in the country.

The Emergency Operations Center at the Ministry of Health stated in a report that surveillance data recorded 662 dengue fever cases within one week across the states of Khartoum, River Nile, Al Jazira, White Nile, Northern State, Gedaref, and Kassala.

The statement also confirmed 48 cases of hepatitis in Al Jazira, Gedaref, and White Nile states. In addition, 103 measles cases were recorded in North Kordofan, White Nile, West Kordofan, and Northern State. Meanwhile, malaria infection rates declined compared to the previous week across 13 states.

The Emergency Operations Center noted the continuation of health promotion activities, including approximately 29,000 household visits, achieving an 80% implementation rate. These efforts also included awareness lectures and discussion sessions.

Furthermore, a campaign titled “Dry It Up, Stop the Fever” was launched in River Nile State to combat dengue, along with a polio awareness campaign carried out in North Kordofan and parts of White Nile State.
