Doctors Without Borders Documents Widespread Rape Crimes in Darfur Regio

Darfur – Mashawir

The organization Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) has highlighted the escalating sexual violence in the Darfur region of western Sudan. In a recent report published on its website, it revealed widespread and systematic violations targeting women and girls since the outbreak of war in April 2023.

The report is based on testimonies from survivors and field medical data, documenting a recurring pattern of “assaults used as a weapon of war to control civilians,” amid the inability of thousands of victims to access care due to insecurity and the worsening humanitarian crisis.

The report relied on firsthand testimonies from women who were subjected to sexual violence, as well as medical data collected by its field teams.

Médecins Sans Frontières accused soldiers of the Rapid Support Forces and affiliated militias of “carrying out systematic and widespread sexual violence.”

It also stated that approximately 3,396 women who were subjected to sexual violence between January 2024 and November 2025 received treatment from its medical teams in North and West Darfur.

The organization added that “this figure represents only a fraction of the true scale of the violence, as many women are unable to safely reach locations where medical care is available.”

It further noted that “97 percent of the victims who received medical treatment were women and girls, and one in five survivors is under the age of 18.”
