A massive fire devastates Al-Nim camp in East Darfur, displacing dozens of families

Al-Daein – Mashawir

Local sources reported that a large fire broke out today in Al-Nim camp, located in the city of Al-Daein in East Darfur State, causing widespread destruction of homes and displacing at least 70 families.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started suddenly داخل the camp before rapidly spreading across wide areas. The nature of the shelters—built from simple, highly flammable materials—contributed to the scale of the damage and made it difficult to contain the fire.
Circulating footage showed intense flames rising as residents, in a state of panic, tried to save whatever belongings they could. However, the prevented them from doing so, resulting in significant material losses.
Local residents also confirmed the lack of adequate firefighting equipment at the site, which further complicated efforts to control the blaze. So far, no official reports have indicated any casualties.
As damage assessments continue, the destruction has been described as severe, with dozens of families left homeless—worsening the already dire humanitarian conditions in the camp.
It is worth noting that Al-Nim camp hosts a large number of displaced people living in difficult conditions, making them more vulnerable to such disasters, especially given the lack of basic services and proper infrastructure.
