Humanitarian Conditions Deteriorate in Sudan’s Blue Nile Region

Blue Nile – Mashawir

Ali Hajjo, Secretary-General of the Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative, has warned that the humanitarian situation in Sudan’s Blue Nile region has become unbearable for displaced people travelling on foot near active front lines in the areas of Geissan, Al-Kurmuk and Wad Al-Mahi, close to the border.

He expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis and the collapse of healthcare services in some areas experiencing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Hajjo described the humanitarian situation, particularly around Geissan, Bao and Wad Al-Mahi, as “catastrophic.”

He added that more than 50,000 people were trapped in these areas near the front lines. He also reported that approximately 7,000 people across the region, including the capital, Damazin, were suffering from dengue fever.

Hajjo explained that the destruction of Um Darfa Hospital by drone strikes had further exacerbated the healthcare crisis, as the facility had been serving thousands of people in the area.

Meanwhile, the Future Development Foundation in the Blue Nile region announced that it was continuing its Future Community Kitchen Initiative for the third consecutive week, providing meals to displaced people in Al-Rusairis locality.

The foundation said it was continuing its efforts to provide food to people displaced from Geissan locality and support affected families amid the prevailing humanitarian and economic hardships.
