UN Warns Food Aid Stocks in Sudan Could Run Out by Early 2027

Omdurman – Mashawir

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, has warned that food aid stocks could run out by early next year, as below-average rainfall exacerbates the country’s ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reported that drought conditions have spread across nearly half of Sudan’s agricultural land, accompanied by poor vegetation growth and severe water shortages.

In a statement, Brown said: “Humanitarian food and nutrition assistance stocks are expected to run out by early 2027 unless urgent funding is provided, leaving the most vulnerable households without essential, life-saving assistance.”

She noted that a severe shortage of rainfall in some parts of Sudan was worsening the existing humanitarian catastrophe, which is already affecting millions of Sudanese.
