Massad Boulos: The Quad Has Agreed to End the Fighting in Sudan Through a Negotiated Settlement

Washington – Mashawir

Massad Boulos, the US President’s Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs, said that the countries of the “Quad” had agreed to end the fighting in Sudan through a negotiated settlement between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a post on the social media platform X, Boulos explained that the Quad countries had agreed to collectively or individually use their communication channels and influence to engage with the military parties in Sudan.

He noted that the Quad countries would hold consultations with the Sudanese parties to reach a negotiated settlement that would lead to an end to the conflict in the country.

Boulos stressed that there was no military solution to the conflict, which has been ongoing for three and a half years. He added that the Quad countries — Saudi Arabia, the United States, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates — had held what he described as a productive meeting in Geneva to discuss accelerating peace efforts.

He pointed out that the anticipated peace efforts would include a humanitarian truce paving the way for a permanent ceasefire, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and supporting the critical efforts of the “Quintet Mechanism” to launch an inclusive dialogue among Sudanese people.
