UN: 33 Million Sudanese People in Urgent Need of Humanitarian Assistance

Washington – Mashawir

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has reported that 33.7 million Sudanese people will need urgent humanitarian assistance in the fourth year of the war.

The agency added that famine has been confirmed in some areas of Darfur and Kordofan.

It stressed that women and girls are bearing the heaviest burden of this catastrophe.

The fund further reported that 805,000 pregnant women are struggling to access medical services, while 12.7 million Sudanese people face the risk of gender-based violence.

UNFPA stated that, of the US$129 million required to meet its needs in Sudan, it has received only 37 per cent of the necessary funding.
