UN: Civilians in Sudan Caught Between Drone Strikes and Arrests

Geneva – Mashawir

United Nations spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that civilians across Sudan remain caught between the escalating drone warfare, government repression and severe deprivation, while both warring parties continue to commit widespread violations.

Dujarric condemned attacks targeting civilians and critical infrastructure, reiterating that all parties to the conflict must comply with international humanitarian law and protect civilians at all times.

The United Nations highlighted a series of deadly airstrikes this week, including drone attacks that targeted a market and a residential neighbourhood in Nyala, South Darfur, last Monday, killing dozens of people and injuring more than 150 others.

Casualties were also reported following two separate drone strikes near El Geneina Airport in West Darfur, as well as an attack in South Kordofan on Tuesday.
