Asharq Al-Awsat has learned from American sources that the United States is making preparations to hold a humanitarian conference regarding Sudan in Washington early next month.
The sources reported that the tentative date for the conference is February 3rd. It is expected to be held at the ambassadorial level, with the United States represented by the Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos.
The sources noted that the date of the conference is still subject to change, as work is ongoing to finalize the details.
If an agreement is reached and the conference is held on the expected date, it is anticipated to aim for the announcement of commitments or pledges to support Sudan within the framework of what is known as the “Sudan Humanitarian Fund.”
