Britain and Egypt Stress Priority of Humanitarian Truce in Sudan

Cairo - Mashaweer

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call today, Friday, with his British counterpart, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, during which they discussed the latest developments regarding the situation in Sudan.

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the call addressed the intensive efforts Egypt is making within the framework of the “Quartet” mechanism to contain the crisis.

The Egyptian Minister emphasized the urgent need to reach an immediate humanitarian truce as a precursor to a comprehensive ceasefire. This is seen as a necessary step toward launching a comprehensive political process that is purely Sudanese-owned.

Abdelatty also highlighted the priority of establishing safe humanitarian corridors and the necessity of ensuring unhindered access for humanitarian aid to meet the needs of the Sudanese people.
