51 Landmine and War Remnant Explosions Recorded in Sudan

Mashawir – Reports

Major General Khaled Hamdan, Director of the National Mine Action Center, reported that 51 incidents involving landmines and war remnants have been recorded in Sudan, resulting in at least 23 deaths and 51 injuries since the outbreak of conflict up to June.

Hamdan stated that the incidents occurred in Khartoum, Blue Nile, and North Kordofan states.

The center received over 831 reports related to landmines and unexploded ordnance this year, most of which were addressed—except those from areas outside the army’s control.

Landmines and unexploded devices remain one of the biggest threats to civilians, especially as many people begin returning to their homes in areas previously affected by heavy fighting, particularly in Khartoum.

The Mine Action Center has deployed 15 teams to remove and neutralize dangerous explosive remnants. These include seven teams in Khartoum, and others in Gezira, White Nile, Sennar, and the cities of El-Obeid and Um Rawaba in North Kordofan, with an additional team operating in Kadugli, South Kordofan.
