Escalation of Fighting in North Kordofan Leaves Behind a Humanitarian Catastrophe

The deteriorating security situation around the city of El-Obeid has raised serious concerns, following the army’s recent loss of the areas of Kazgeel and Umm Sumaymah in North Kordofan. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced that their troops have reached the outskirts of El-Obeid, sparking widespread fear among residents about the potential spread of military operations into the city itself.

In a statement, the Sudan Doctors Network called on both warring parties to respect the rules of war and avoid putting civilians at risk in the ongoing clashes in the region since last Thursday.

Local sources reported that the RSF launched fresh attacks targeting several villages east of the town of Bara, carrying out widespread looting and terrorizing civilians. These raids involved severe physical assaults, resulting in the death of one person and many injuries.

Eyewitnesses stated that scenes of looting and assaults on the villages and rural areas surrounding Bara have become a daily occurrence, leaving behind a grim reality and ongoing suffering for the communities in those areas.
