The Advocacy Group for Peace in Sudan (AGPS) has launched a comprehensive national initiative under the title “Sudan Peace Call” aimed at ending the war and establishing a just and sustainable peace led by Sudanese themselves. The initiative was introduced in response to a call by Francis Deng, a South Sudanese diplomat and former Sudanese minister prior to the secession of South Sudan.
The group described the initiative as a response to what it called “the most critical turning point in Sudan’s modern history,” stating that the war has gone beyond ordinary destruction and is now undermining the foundations of society and state institutions.
Speaking at an online press conference, Deng urged Sudanese citizens to “take responsibility for their homeland.”
He stressed that peace is a fundamental condition for building any shared future that could restore unity between the North and South.
Deng called for putting the country’s internal affairs in order before engaging in dialogue with the region and the international community.
Issam al-Din Abbas, a member of AGPS, said the initiative’s strategic vision is to unite Sudanese efforts in confronting the current historical challenges.
He emphasized that the initiative is open to all Sudanese without exclusion, with the aim of achieving reconciliation between local communities and political elites in pursuit of lasting peace.
