Khartoum Hospitals Overwhelmed Amid Unprecedented Outbreak of Epidemics
Reports – Mashawir
Hospitals and health centers across Sudan’s capital, including Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri, are witnessing severe overcrowding as deadly diseases and epidemics spread, particularly malaria, dengue fever, and cholera.
Residents face multiple crises, including a shortage of healthcare services, a lack of medicines, and the depletion of financial savings for the majority.
In response, Acting State Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza announced a “major campaign” tomorrow, Saturday, September 13, aimed at clearing rubble and weeds, draining stagnant water from public areas, and carrying out spraying operations to combat disease-carrying vectors.
He called for community partnership, stressing that citizens are key stakeholders in ensuring the campaign’s success.
The governor also discussed plans to return a number of hospitals in Khartoum locality to service, after systematic destruction forced them out of operation. He pledged to begin maintenance and rehabilitation efforts and to address shortages in medical staff.
