Displacement of Dozens of Families from West Kordofan Due to Deteriorating Humanitarian Conditions

Agencies – Mashawir

The rural areas surrounding the city of An-Nuhud in West Kordofan State, under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), have witnessed a new wave of displacement as dozens of families fled to El-Obeid. They are escaping the worsening humanitarian situation in these areas, marked by severe shortages of food supplies, an escalating drinking water crisis, and an almost complete collapse of basic services—making it extremely difficult to remain there.

According to several displaced persons who arrived in El-Obeid, the reasons that forced them to leave included the soaring prices of essential goods and the difficulty of accessing them, in addition to the drinking water crisis and the spread of theft and looting incidents carried out by unidentified armed groups.

Following the RSF’s takeover of An-Nuhud at the beginning of last May, the city experienced a state of lawlessness that prompted residents to flee towards nearby villages and areas. However, the absence of services and the deteriorating security situation in those alternative locations forced them once again to flee—this time to different areas, including El-Obeid and cities in the east and north of the country—in search of the bare minimum of stability and safe living conditions.
