Severe Water Crisis Deepens Suffering of El-Fasher Residents

Agencies – Mashawir

The humanitarian situation in El-Fasher has worsened due to the severe shortage and scarcity of food and medicine caused by the ongoing siege of the city by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2024.

Residents of the western neighborhoods and parts of the northern districts—still under the control of the army and its allies—are reporting an acute water crisis that reached its peak over the past three days after the RSF seized control of several water sources.

The price of a barrel of water has risen to 16,000 Sudanese pounds (about four U.S. dollars), while water has become entirely unavailable in several displacement gathering sites and shelter centers in the western part of El-Fasher.

Meanwhile, sporadic clashes have erupted between the army and the RSF inside El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, particularly in the southern and northwestern sectors of the city.
