Sudan: Around 300 Women Killed in El Fasher

Mashawir – Agencies

Sudan’s Minister of State for Human Resources, Social Welfare, and Labor, Salima Ishaq, said that attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on shelters and displacement routes following their takeover of El Fasher have led to the killing of around 300 women.

Ishaq explained that the RSF tortured women before killing them and committed acts of sexual violence during the storming of shelters and the targeting of escape routes out of the city.

This was echoed by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which stated:

> “We have confirmed the widespread occurrence of sexual assaults against women and girls by armed groups during the attacks and while they were fleeing, in addition to horrific executions inside El Fasher.”

The UN agency noted that the entry of RSF forces into the city sparked a wave of fear among families who had survived a 500-day siege amid ongoing conflict, forcing about 26,000 people to flee El Fasher in recent days.
