UN Agencies Warn of Worsening Hunger Levels in Sudan

Mashawir – Follow-ups

United Nations agencies have warned that the escalating war in Sudan is pushing the country toward unprecedented levels of hunger, child malnutrition, and displacement, with a rapid deterioration of conditions in Darfur and an increasing flow of refugees into Chad.
UNICEF confirmed that recorded malnutrition rates are among the highest ever documented, warning that the lack of urgent and unhindered humanitarian access is placing children at risk of dying from preventable causes.
According to United Nations assessments conducted among approximately 500 children, 53% were found to be suffering from acute malnutrition, including 18% classified as severe cases. North Darfur has now become a focal point of the hunger crisis following the intensification of fighting and the fall of El Fasher.
