Water Scarcity Doubles the Suffering of East Darfur Residents

Reports - Mashaweer

Jabrona Humanitarian Emergency Room, located in the Abu Karinka locality of East Darfur State, has issued an urgent appeal to humanitarian organizations, Darfur emergency rooms, and aid partners, as well as the East Darfur State Water Corporation and local authorities. The appeal calls for immediate intervention to rescue residents from a severe drinking water crisis.

The Emergency Room stated that the Jabrona area, located in the northeastern strip of the Abu Karinka locality on the border with the Dalil Babikir area in North Darfur, is suffering from a near-total lack of water sources due to the breakdown of all water supply stations.

In a post on its Facebook page, the group explained: “The area previously had three water wells. Two have been out of service since 2010, while the third well, the only remaining source, stopped working about two months ago. It has yet to be repaired despite repeated appeals to the relevant authorities.”

The Jabrona Emergency Room noted that residents are now forced to fetch water from neighboring areas, including “Wad Bakht, Izz al-Din, and Dalil Babikir.” These trips take at least six hours, creating a massive humanitarian burden, particularly for women, children, and the elderly.

The group warned of deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions if the crisis persists. It called for urgent intervention to restart the water stations or provide emergency alternatives to ensure the residents’ right to safe drinking water.
