Deadlock in Sudan Peace Process as Quartet Efforts Falter

Khartoum - Mashaweer

A state of stagnation currently dominates efforts to end the war in Sudan, following the failure of the “Quartet” mechanism’s roadmap to achieve any significant results over the past several months.

Given the current political impasse, several sources suggest it is not unlikely that closed-door discussions have taken place. These talks have reportedly been shrouded in complete secrecy to prevent any information leaks.

The same sources added that there is an attempt, described as a move by the President of the Sovereignty Council and Army Commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan—to bypass the Quartet and create a new negotiating track. This path would be led directly by U.S. President Donald Trump, a preference al-Burhan has expressed on multiple occasions in his speeches.

Political sources reported that despite the Quartet’s apparent inability to achieve a breakthrough in implementing its roadmap, specifically regarding the most critical item, the ceasefire, mediators have not yet declared the initiative a failure or announced a suspension of talks.
