Arab nations have condemned attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Al-Kuwaik Military Hospital, a World Food Programme (WFP) relief convoy, and a bus carrying displaced civilians. These attacks resulted in the deaths of dozens of unarmed civilians, including women and children, and caused significant damage to facilities and relief convoys in Sudan’s North and South Kordofan states.
Yesterday, Saudi Arabia expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of these “criminal attacks.” In a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, the Kingdom emphasized that these actions cannot be justified under any circumstances and constitute flagrant violations of all humanitarian norms and relevant international agreements.
For his part, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemned in the strongest terms the targeting of the WFP relief convoy in North Kordofan. He described the assault as a grave violation of international humanitarian law principles and an unacceptable breach of all rules and norms that ensure the protection of humanitarian work.
In a similar vein, Egypt condemned the attacks on humanitarian aid convoys, medical facilities, and displaced persons in Sudan on Sunday, describing them as a “dangerous continuation of targeting humanitarian corridors and obstructing relief efforts.” The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the attack on a medical facility in the Kordofan region, which left dozens dead and injured, is a gross violation of international humanitarian law.
Furthermore, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today: “The State of Qatar strongly condemns the targeting of a World Food Programme relief convoy in North Kordofan, considering it a blatant violation of international humanitarian law principles.” The Ministry stressed the necessity of protecting humanitarian workers in Sudan and ensuring the sustainable delivery of aid to those in need within the state.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, also condemned the RSF attacks on humanitarian aid convoys today. A spokesperson for Aboul Gheit stated that the attack on aid convoys and relief workers in North Kordofan “amounts to a full-fledged war crime” under international humanitarian law.
