Urgent international call to address the refugee registration crisis in Sudan

Port Sudan - Mashaweer

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that it continues to call on Sudanese authorities to immediately resume refugee registration throughout the country.

It warned of the consequences of halting this process for tens of thousands of people in need of protection.

The UNHCR explained that more than 75,000 refugees from South Sudan during 2025 alone have been unable to register, which deprives them of access to basic services and urgent humanitarian support.

It emphasized that registration represents a vital step to ensure refugees’ access to aid, including food, healthcare, and education.
