The No to Women’s Oppression Initiative and other feminist organizations condemned the arrest of women and female journalists in the city of Nyala.
The feminist organizations demanded that the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces immediately release all women held in prisons.
The feminist organizations expressed their concern for the health and safety of the detainees in Nyala, calling for their release and requesting that lawyers be allowed to meet them, families be allowed to visit, and those who are ill be given medical care and medicine urgently.
According to sources, the arrests took place during a workshop organized by Female Journalists for Peace and Netkalim in cooperation with the Sudan Women’s Development Organization on March 1st.
About 25 people participated in the workshop, which discussed women’s rights in international conventions and national laws, specifically UN Resolution 1325.
