The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced today, Saturday, the launch of a campaign tomorrow, Sunday, to vaccinate newborns against Hepatitis B in 10 states, excluding Darfur and Kordofan.
The ministry indicated that the vaccination campaign covers the states of Khartoum, River Nile, Northern, Kassala, Gedaref, Red Sea, Gezira, White Nile, Blue Nile, and Sennar, with the remaining states to be completed in the next phase.
It stated that the vaccination campaign will target infants born within 24 hours to enhance their protection and prevent the transmission of the disease to them.
The birth dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine is the first dose given to an infant within the first 24 hours after birth to protect them from viral infection, whether from the mother or any other source.
