WFP Expands Emergency Assistance in Sudan

Khartoum – Mashawir

The World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Friday the expansion of its humanitarian response in the Akobo area of eastern South Sudan.

The agency stated that more than 60,000 people have received food assistance over the past three weeks, while estimates indicate that thousands of residents remain at risk of famine.

The WFP emphasized that it requires $266 million this year to continue providing life-saving humanitarian assistance in South Sudan.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan continues to worsen as the ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of nearly 13 million people, according to international reports.
