The Dar Hamar Emergency Room has expressed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating health situation in the Jawal area of Al-Nuhud locality in West Kordofan, amid a renewed outbreak of cholera that is spreading at an alarming rate throughout the region.
In a public statement, the emergency room highlighted worrying preliminary statistics showing a steady increase in the number of infections, raising fears that the epidemic could soon become uncontrollable.
The statement noted that the area is facing an extremely critical health situation due to a near-total shortage of life-saving medicines and intravenous fluids needed to treat patients.
Health authorities had announced in March that Sudan was free of cholera. However, the disease re-emerged in May after new cases were reported in parts of West Kordofan.
