The United States has warned of the consequences of attacks on humanitarian and civilian infrastructure in Sudan, describing them as a direct threat to international efforts to deliver assistance to those in need.
In a statement, the Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State condemned the attack on the Ardamata Bridge in El Geneina, West Darfur State. The bridge is a critical route used by humanitarian partners to transport food and medical aid that has saved the lives of thousands of people.
The U.S. State Department called on all parties to the conflict to accept an immediate humanitarian truce that would allow relief convoys to reach millions of affected civilians. It stressed that there is no military solution to the crisis and that dialogue remains the only path toward ending the war.
The Ardamata Bridge, which links El Geneina with the Darfur and Kordofan regions, serves as a vital artery for the transportation of commercial goods and humanitarian assistance. The bridge was destroyed last week in an airstrike, although no party has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
